Top 69 Masters of Education in Education Leadership For Working Professionals

Last Updated: August 2019

The Scores

Overall – a blend of the 4 category scores: Flexibility, Affordability, Program Strength, and Time to Complete.

Flexibility – a measure of the scheduling and location flexibility a program offers. Programs receiving the highest ratings offer the following:

  • Both fully online and hybrid (part online, part on-campus) learning formats
  • Ability to schedule classes around your work schedule
  • Program starting points throughout the year
  • Potential to earn credits for work experience

A high flexibility rating can also mean that the schedule is flexible enough to allow you to maximize any tuition reimbursement programs your current employer may offer.

Affordability –a measure of program expense. The highest scoring programs offer the following:

  • Low tuition
  • In-state tuition reductions
  • Ability to earn credits through work experience and/or competency, reducing the costs of those credits

Program strength – a measure of how well a program delivers online courses. Programs scoring well in this category excel in the following:

  • Graduation rate
  • Breadth of online programs offered (we have found this to be a leading indicator of the strength of their online platform)

Time to complete – a measure of the typical time to complete the program. We understand how valuable your time is, and what that means for achieving your career goals. Programs scoring well in this category share these attributes:

  • Time to complete under 2 years
  • Schedule flexibility that allows you to shorten the program time based on when you take courses, or how many courses you take at a time
  • Ability to earn credits from work experience or demonstrating competency, thereby reducing the courses you need to take, and the time necessary to complete requirements.

As a teacher, you probably take a lot of heat from your non-educator friends for having summers off … but what they may not realize is that during the school year, work rarely ends when the last student steps onto the school bus.

If you’re interested in shifting into a leadership career track, finding the time and energy to pursue a graduate degree may seem like a daunting task. But here’s the good news: Advancements in online education have made getting an advanced degree more attainable than ever before.

How we evaluated schools
